Amaltheia Organic Dairy is a family run farm located just outside of Bozeman, Montana in the foothills of the Bridger Mountains. We are a certified organic farm that has been handcrafting award winning goat cheeses for over 20 years. We utilize our by-products, creating our own compost, as well as grow a wide variety of vegetables. We sell wholesale to grocery stores, select restaurants, two local farmers markets and began a CSA in 2022. We strive to have the farm be a fun, efficient and gratifying place to work.

Job Description

Amaltheia Organic Dairy is a diverse organic farm based in Belgrade, Montana. In 2022 we expanded to 9 acres of vegetable production. This posting is for the vegetable production portion of the farm.

We are seeking multiple Field and Pack Crew Members for the 2025 season and beyond. For all of our positions we are looking for people who are positive, hard and fast workers, who easily take on responsibilities, and can work productively both in groups and individually. This is a full time position, April - October with the option for year-round work. We are only accepting applicants that can commit to the full season with preference for applicants that would like to commit for at least 2 seasons.

Field and Pack Crew requirements include:

  • Previous experience working on a farm is a bonus but not required for employment consideration

  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude in all weather conditions while working outside (hot, cold, rainy, windy)

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal instruction from Farm Managers

  • A drivers license and reliable transportation to work

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and consistently

  • Punctuality and reliability is a must

  • Strong communication skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain a swift pace when working

  • Working in a bent over or kneeling position and must be able to endure long stretches while maintaining speed and efficiency in the task at hand

  • There is a great deal of repetition required to perform many farm tasks so understanding that is a must

  • Dressing accordingly for weather and being prepared for changes in weather

Field and Pack Crew Member responsibilities include:

  • Harvesting a wide variety of vegetables including but not limited to: hand harvesting baby greens, bunching kale, bunching root crops, and picking hot crops like tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers

  • Field Work: transplanting, weeding, row covering for pests and frost protection, rock bag carrying, and hoeing

  • Greenhouse Work: trellising, pruning, weeding, and harvesting

  • Packshed work: washing, weighing, and packing vegetables with thorough attention to the needs of the various vegetables that we grow for proper washing, packing, and storage.

Schedule & Hours:

  • This can either be a full time position (preferably) 4-5 days a week Monday- Thursday or Friday with varying start dates ranging for the beginning of May to early July.

  • Season is from May-end of October with year round positions available as we sell vegetables and goat cheese year round.

    Full Time work would include:

  • 2 days harvesting in the morning & then driving to our Pack Shed to wash, weigh, and pack Produce for the remainder of the day

  • 3 days working in the field

  • Possibility to work at Farmer’s Market if interested

    Part Time work would include:

  • 2 days harvesting in the morning & then driving to our Pack Shed to wash, weigh, and pack Produce for the remainder of the day

  • 1 day working in the field

all field and pack crew members are expected to work 2 full pack shed days, every week. work days are generally 7am-5pm but please be aware that there are many days we can go over the 10hr mark especially in august and september. Every week is different and it is our utmost importance that you are flexible with your after work plans. we strive to maintain a balance work schedule but on the farm there are times when we have to work later to ensure all vegetables are washed and packed for delivery the next morning.

Compensation:

Starting wage for this position is $16/hr or DOE. In addition to an hourly wage, employees receive paid lunches and we provide a weekly CSA which includes our vegetables & goat cheeses. Full time positions will have the opportunity to raises during the season.
