Amaltheia Organic Dairy is a family run farm located just outside of Bozeman, Montana in the foothills of the Bridger Mountains. We are a certified organic farm that has been handcrafting award winning goat cheeses for over 20 years. We utilize all of our by-products and raise organic pigs, make compost for our fields, and grow a wide variety of vegetables. We sell CSA shares, wholesale to grocery stores, select restaurants, and two Bozeman farmers markets. We strive to have the farm be a fun, efficient and gratifying place to work.
Job Description
Amaltheia Organic Dairy is a diverse organic farm based in Belgrade, Montana. In 2025 we will be growing 9 acres of vegetables. This posting is for the vegetable production portion of the farm.
We are seeking a Pack Shed Manager for the 2025 season and beyond. This will be a full time, year round position starting in May. For all of our positions we are looking for people who are positive, hard and fast workers, who easily take on responsibilities, and productively manage a crew of employees to wash and pack our vegetables.
Pack Shed and Sales Manager requirements include:
Minimum of 2 years organic vegetable farming experience
Previous experience in pack shed work a big plus
Punctuality and reliability is a must
Strong communication skills
Great attention to detail
Time management and multitasking ability is essential
Positive attitude, hard working, and ability to work well with others
Ability to problem solve
Ability to work with a sense of urgency and maintain a swift pace
Ability to work outside in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rainy, windy)
Must be able to stand for several hours at a time while working with speed and efficiency (washing, weighing and packing vegetables for a full 10+ hour work day)
Drivers license and reliable transportation to work
Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and consistently without strain
Pack Shed and Sales Manager responsibilities include:
Harvesting with crew on harvest days (Monday, Tuesday & Thursdays)
Updating harvest amounts and crops for harvest days
Writing order tags for our boxes and doing invoices
Washing and packing vegetables with thorough attention to the needs of different produce for proper washing, packing and storage
Teaching new crew members how to harvest, wash & pack all products
Leading members of the wash/pack crew in the packshed
Coordinating to sort, wash, bunch, bag, pack and label freshly harvested produce in the wash station each day
Setting up and breaking down wash/pack stations
Walk-in cooler organization and backstock oversight
Packaging supplies inventory management and ordering
Coordinating with our delivery driver
Explaining the washing and cleaning of harvest containers
Schedule & Hours:
The position’s start date is flexible but the target start date is May 1st, 2025.
This position only requires a 4 day work week (10 hours a day) Monday-Thursday. Harvest and Packshed days are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday with Monday and Thursday being wholesale orders and Tuesday harvesting and packing our CSA boxes. Be aware that there are many days we go over the 10 hour mark in peak season (especially in August & September). Because of this it is of the utmost importance that you are flexible with your after-work plans. We strive to maintain a sane and balanced work schedule but there are times that we work later to ensure all products are washed and packed for delivery the next morning.
Compensation:
Starting wage for this position is $17-$19/hr based on experience. In addition to an hourly wage, employees receive paid lunches, catered farm lunches biweekly throughout the summer, and we provide a weekly “employee CSA” which includes our vegetables & goat cheeses.
